Maverick Men’s Golf Ranked Seventh in NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team has been picked to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

MSU received a total of 51 points to claim the seventh spot in the poll. Winona State topped the poll with 97 points and eight first-place votes, with Concordia-St. Paul following in second with 91 points and three first-place votes. Sioux Falls received the third spot with 80 points as well.

Senior Karson Patten has been named MSU's Golfer to Watch for the upcoming season. Last season, Patten competed in all 24 rounds for the Mavericks as he averaged 73.3 strokes per round. Patten notched seven top-20 finishes, including a sixth place finish at the NSIC Championships as he finished with a score of 218 (+2). He later earned All-NSIC Second Team honors.

Sophomore Sam Swavely also returns for the Mavericks, having played in 18 rounds last season while averaging 75.6 strokes per round. Swavely finished in the top-20 of two events, including a ninth place finish at the Jewell Invitational with a 140 (-4).

As a team last season, the Mavericks posted three finishes in the top-four, including a pair of third place finishes at the BSU Invitational (+13) and the Jewell Invitational (-11). At the NSIC Championships, MSU finished in eighth place at +57.

Minnesota State opens its 2026-27 season on Sept. 14-15 in Hudson, Wis., as it competes in the two-day Fall Brawl at the Troy Burne Golf Club.
