SMITHVILLE, Mo. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team finished round one of the NSIC Championships in seventh place Friday.
The three-round NSIC Championships are being held at the par-72 Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo. Ten teams are competing in the NSIC Championships. Minnesota State shot a 306 (+18) to finish the round in seventh place. Concordia-St. Paul sits atop the team standings with a score of 286 (-2). CSP's Sean Leutner leads the overall individual standings with a 68 (-4).
Junior
Karson Patten led the Mavericks in the first round as he shot an even 72 to finish the day in fifth place. Patten recorded three birdies as he shot a 36 on both the front and back nines.
"Karson played well today in challenging conditions with winds blowing from 20-30 mph and gusts up to 40," assistant coach
Todd Pfingsten said. "We need to do a better job of keeping the ball in play. The guys will keep grinding and we are looking forward to tomorrow."
Senior
Hogan Ordal shot a 76 (+4), which included two birdies, to finish the round in 23rd place. Sophomore
Michael Johnson followed one stroke behind Ordal with a 77 (+6) as he notched two birdies.
Freshman
Paul Rezko shot an 81 (+9), while senior
Leo Werschay followed two strokes back with an 83 (+11) as well.
Round two of the NSIC Championships will be held on Saturday.
