Mavericks Open Outdoor Competition at WashU Distance Carnival and ESU Spring Open

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor schedules this weekend as they competed in the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo. and the ESU Spring Open.

Minnesota State will wrap up the Wildcat Outdoor Classic in Wayne, Neb., on Saturday.

The Maverick distance runners competed at the WashU Distance Carnival, while the other members of the men's and women's teams competed at the Emporia State Spring Open.

"Our distance coaches were happy with how they performed out in St. Louis," head coach Mike Turgeon said. "A lot of our distance runners set lifetime personal bests."

"I'm just so proud how they overcame the conditions they faced to put up quality performances at Emporia State," Turgeon said.
 
Men
At the WashU Distance Carnivale, Jack Kendall finished in second in the 10,000m event with a time of 30:07.07 which is the third fastest time in school history and the first team he has ever run the event. Erek Ross recorded a personal best time in the 3,000m steeplechase event as he finished in 15th place with a time of 9:26.94 and another personal best in the 5,000m event with a time of 14:54.02. Luke Scholtes also posted a personal best time in the 5,000m event with a time of 15:19.57 as well.

In the discus, Dylan Gross took second place with a throw of 172-09 (52.67m). Gloss also finished second in the shot put event with a personal best throw of 59-7.5 (18.17m) against six of the top-12 athletes from the indoor season.

Kerdel Moses won the 110m hurdles event with a time of 14.13, while Kenjuan Hampton finished in third place with a time of 14.25. Quinton Ellis set the standard in the 400m event also as he won the event with a time of 48.12. Hampton also finished fourth in the 200m event with a time of 21.40, with Qai Hussey following in fifth with a time of 21.45.

The triple jump event saw Sheldon McNicholas finish in second with a jump of 49-2.25 (14.99m), with Abagotte Opiew following in third place with a jump of 49-0.25 (14.94m).

Jalen McGee won the long jump event as he recorded a personal best jump of 25-0.75 (7.64m). Terrance Thomas took fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 23-3.25 (7.09m) as well.

The 4x100 team relay team of Tyreese James, Hampton, Rinaldo Moore and Hussey took third place with a time of 40.96.
 
Women

At the WashuU Distance Carnivale Mileena Sullivan recorded a personal best time in the 3,000m steeplechase as she finished in 28th pace with a time of 11:24.00. Ashley Overgaauw recorded a time of 4:49.35 in the 1,500m event also.

In the triple jump event, Ghada Hamdani took first place with a jump of 41-1.50 (12.53m), with her teammate Lillian Washington following in second place with a jump of 38-10.50 (11.85m).

Brianna Shroyer took first place in the 400m with a time of 57.83, while Lexi Kuffel took fourth place with a time of 59.03.

Aubri Brown took fourth place in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 177-01 (53.99m). Brown also took fifth place in the discus event with a throw of 149-0 (45.42m) and eighth place in the shot put with a throw of 41-2.25 (12.55m).

In the long jump event, Dorcus Opoku finished in second place with a jump of 19-4.25 (5.90m), while Bianca Bertolotti finished in fourth with a mark of 18-10.50 (5.75m).

Alexa Post took fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.67.

The Maverick 4x100 relay team of Madison Hubbard, Jordin McGee, Esaba Okwaramoi and Norah D'Almeida took first place with a time of 46.91.
