SMITHVILLE, Mo. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team finished in ninth place at the NSIC Men's Conference Preview Tuesday.
The two-round NSIC Men's Conference Preview was held at the par-72 Paradise Pointe Golf Complex. Winona State finished first amongst the 15 teams as the Warriors shot a 290-284—574 (-2). Minnesota State shot a 305-300--605 (+29) to finish ninth. Winona State's Peyton Coahran (71-70—141) and Minnesota Crookston's Marc Bofarull (70-71—141) finished first in the individual standings at -3.
"We had some good bounce back rounds today," head coach
Alex Schmitz said. We still have to find a couple more scores to give a chance at finishing higher in the standings."
Senior
Hogan Ordal shot a 70 (-2) on the final day, including three birdies and an eagle, to finish in a tie for 16th place with a 148 (+4). Junior
Karson Patten recorded a 78 in the final round to finish in a tie with Ordal in 16th place as well with a 148 (+4).
Sophomore
Michael Johnson notched recorded four birdies in his second round as his score of 76 helped him finish the event with a 154 (+10). Freshman
Sam Swavely followed one stroke behind Johnson as his 76 in the final round brought his score to 155 (+11). Senior
Leo Werschay finished the second round with an 80 to bring his final score to 159 (+15) also.
Competing independently, freshman
Paul Rezko finished with a 75 in the second round, including an eagle on hole nine, to wrap up the event in 31st place with a score of 151 (+7). Junior
Jack Schrader shot a 73 to bring his final score to 164 (+20).
Minnesota State continues its season on April 6-7 as it travels to Mayetta, Kan., to compete in the Firekeeper Open at the Firekeeper Golf Course.
