Mavericks Conclude Successful Mark Schuck Open & Multi

MANKATO, Minn. – No. 3 Minnesota State women's track and field concluded the final day of competition at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi on Saturday at Myers Field House. Senior Ashanti Harvey continued her early season success with a meet record in triple jump and a first place mark of 12.37m (40-7.00, personal record, sixth in NCAA Division II). Harvey joined Miranda Lauvstad, who broke the meet record in pentathlon on Friday with a score of 4,118.
 
"What a wonderful weekend hosting the Mark Schuck Open & Multi," said head coach Mike Turgeon. "We hosted the largest track and field meet our coaching staff can recall, with 1,278 student-athletes competing across 1,901 entries. Myers Field House had a fun and exciting atmosphere throughout the weekend. Our teams are really coming together, and we are looking forward to splitting our squad next week as we compete at the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota.
 
Esaba Okwaramoi won the 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.54 for the Mavericks. Amalinally Pemberton topped the 400 meter event with a time of 58.49. Lexi Kuffel set a personal record in second place in the 600 meters. Her time was 1:38.15. Addison Peed posted a season-best 800-meter time of 2:20.46 and finished fourth. Paige Larsen was also fourth in 1000 meters with a personal best time of 3:03.26.
 
Isabel Peterson (UW-Platteville) set the meet record in 200 meters for first place (24.25), but MSU's Grace Obour was second with a time of 25.32. Norah D'Almeida also crossed third with a time of 25.33.
 
In distance, Ashley Overgaauw placed third with a season best time of 5:05.15. Amanda Overgaauw topped the podium in 5000 meters with a time of 18:11.30.
 
In the field, Jordin McGee took first with a personal best mark of 6.06m (19-10.75). The mark was fifth in NCAA Division II this season and 70th across all divisions. Dorcus Opoku came in second in the same event with a mark of 5.99m (19-8.00).
 
Aubri Brown was victorious in weight throw after landing her implement at 19.32m (63-4.75). Brown also posted a third place mark in shot put (13.44m, 44-1.25). It was 45th in NCAA Division II.
 
The Mavericks took positions 3-5 in pole vault behind a pair of St. Thomas student-athletes. Willow Oehmichen took third with a personal record 3.76m (12-4.00), 20th in NCAA Division II.
 
Lillian Washington closed out high jump in second at 1.62m (5-3.75 – jump off with Hailey Campbell of UW-Platteville, 1.62m).
 
The Mavericks continue indoor track and field season at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Feb. 6-7 in Lincoln, Nebraska and at the University of Minnesota Classic on Feb. 7.
