IOWA CITY, Iowa – Minnesota State track and field was in Iowa City this week for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Indoor Track Building. Minnesota State student-athletes posted several winning events, pitted against 15 institutions from multiple NCAA levels.
"Competing at the University of Iowa is always a meet our team looks forward to each year," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "Facing Big Ten programs closely mirrors the level of competition we expect to see at the national championships. It also gives our athletes valuable opportunities to compete on a banked track and allows our jumpers to get comfortable on raised runways."

Sophomore
Aubri Brown continued her strong indoor campaign with a second place finish in weight throw on Friday and a mark of 19.19m (62-11.50). Brown also placed sixth in shot put, landing at 12.96m (42-6.25).

Senior
Lillian Washington took sixth and posted the 40
th best high jump in NCAA Division II with a mark of 1.66m (5-5.25). Freshman
Bianca Bertolotti also placed sixth in long jump with a mark of 5.49m (18-00.25).

On the track,
Lexi Kuffel placed second in 600 meters with a time of 1:38.32. Senior
Miranda Lauvstad was sixth in 200 meters (premier) and finished behind five University of Iowa sprinters with a time of 23.71 (30
th in NCAA Division II).

Sophomore
Elvira Collvin impressed in pole vault on Saturday with her first place finish and season best height of 3.90m (12-9.50). The mark was 11
th in Division II.

Washington took second place in triple jump with a mark of 11.98m (39-3.75). Kuffel crossed the line eighth in 400 meters with a time of 58.69.

In Saturday sprints, senior
Ashanti Harvey hit a personal record with her third place 60 meter hurdles time of 8.40 (fourth in Division II).
Jordin McGee raced to eighth in 60 meter dash finals with a personal best time 7.66 seconds.
"We're looking ahead to next weekend when our entire team will compete at the annual Mark Schuck Open & Multi," Turgeon said. "We're excited to welcome a large group of alumni back to Myers Field House as the Mavericks take on 20 other teams next Friday and Saturday."
Next up for the Mavericks is the Mark Schuck Open & Multi at Myers Field House in Mankato Jan. 30-31.
