#2 Minnesota State Sets Program Record in 94–69 Win

MANKATO, Minn. — The Minnesota State women's basketball team (18-0, 12-0 NSIC) defeated Bemidji State University (7-9, 4-8 NSIC) 94-69 on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Taylor Center, capitalizing on 42 points off turnovers. The win marked the 18th consecutive victory for the No. 2-ranked Mavericks, setting a new program record for the most consecutive wins in a single season.

Natalie Bremer led with 27 points, converting 10 field goals on 21 attempts and making 6 of 7 free throws. Senior guard Mackenzie Schweim added 11 points, connecting on 5 of 11 shots, and recorded two steals. Schweim's performance continued her streak of scoring at least 11 total points in three consecutive games. Adeline Kent contributed six points while also collecting two steals and two assists. Sophomore Lucy Leininger tallied eight points and three steals, along with four rebounds.

The game began with Minnesota State establishing an early lead through a 3-pointer from Hannah Herzig, assisted by Leininger, at 9:45. The Mavericks capitalized on turnovers, scoring four points off Bemidji State's miscues, with Leininger's jumper at 8:58 contributing to the early momentum. BSU responded, tying the game at 5 with a 3-pointer at 8:22. The Mavericks maintained defensive pressure, forcing 10 turnovers in the quarter while grabbing 10 offensive rebounds. Despite the efforts, both teams remained evenly matched.

MSU closed the quarter strongly, tying the score at 14 with a layup from Bremer at 2:07, assisted by Haylee Stokes. The first quarter ended with the teams locked at 14-14, setting a competitive tone for the remainder of the game.

Behind a dominant offensive performance, Minnesota State took control in the second quarter by outscoring the Beavers 35–12 while turning 11 Bemidji State turnovers into 21 points. A key moment came early in the period when Kent found Bremer for a layup to extend the lead, and the Mavericks continued to build momentum with efficient shooting, connecting on 14-of-21 attempts from the field, including two from beyond the arc. Defensively, MSU added six steals and a crucial block in the closing seconds, heading into halftime with a commanding 49–26 advantage.

Momentum swung firmly in Minnesota State's favor to open the third quarter, as Ava Stier's jumper off a feed from Herzig set the tone. The Mavericks continued to capitalize on Bemidji State turnovers, stringing together a series of scoring plays that included a Stier layup and a Bremer fast-break jumper. Defensively, Minnesota State recorded five steals in the period, helping generate a 12-point advantage off turnovers. Although the Beavers responded with nine made field goals, the Mavericks maintained control through consistent paint scoring and steady production at the free-throw line, outscoring Bemidji State 27–25 in the quarter and extending their lead to 76–51.

The Mavericks maintained control in the fourth quarter, continuing to capitalize on turnovers while displaying strong offensive execution. Rhyan Holmgren provided steady production, including a layup and free throw at the 6:14 mark, helping sustain the Mavericks' lead. Defensively, the home team remained active, highlighted by a key block from Delaynie Luneckas at 4:17. Although BSU matched MSU with 18 points in the period, the Mavericks' balanced scoring and effective bench play preserved a comfortable advantage, sealing the 94–69 victory.
