HUDSON, Wis. —- The Minnesota State women's golf team set the standard Tuesday afternoon as the Mavericks finished first at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl at the Troy Burne Golf Club.
The Mavericks finish 1st out of 14 teams as they shot a 301-298—599 (+31). Washburn took second place in the event as it shot a 311-298—609 (+41).
"We're really proud of how the women came out ready to compete," assistant coach Todd Pfingsten said. "They battled with a seven-shot lead going into day two and extended that today with Tori leading the way with -1 and Emerson putting together a great back nine. It was a great win and we are looking forward to competing next week at the Jewell."
Junior Victoria Woytassek took first place in the individual standings as she shot a 74-70—144 (+2). Woytassek recorded six birdies and notched one of the event's two eagles.
Sophomore Emerson Garlie followed close behind in third place as she posted a 71-75—146 (+4). Garlie tallied eight birdies, including five during her opening round.
Senior Samantha Youngquist and sophomore Mila Jenniges finished in a tie for 12th place as they both finished at +13. Youngquist shot an 80-75—155, which included two birdies, while Jenniges posted a 76-79—155 which included three birdies.
Senior Ava Olson finished in 26th place with an 82-78—160 (+18) as well.
Four Mavericks, including juniors Lauren Brown and Lauryn Keller, sophomore Aly Blomberg and freshman Karalyn Skinner competed independently.
Keller finished the event in ninth place as she shot a 75-76—151 (+9), while Blomberg finished in 15th with an 81-76—157 (+15). Skinner posted an 82-82—164 (+44) to finish in 40th place, while Brown shot an 84-83—167 (+25) to finish in 49th place.
Minnesota State returns to action on Sept. 22-23 as it takes part in the Jewell Invitational at the Jewell Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.
