Mavericks Erupt Late to Cap Off Commanding Win

MINOT, N.D – The Minnesota State Mavericks (24-2, 18-1 NSIC) take the third game from the Minot State Beavers (12-15, 7-12 NSIC) and erupt in the ninth inning at Corbett Field on Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota State came out swinging and never looked back, defeating Minot State 19-7 in a road victory. The Mavericks wasted no time putting pressure on the Beavers, scoring three in the first inning behind RBI knocks from Zach Stroh and a wild pitch that plated another. A two-run homer from Ike Mezzenga in the second highlighted a three-run frame, pushing the early lead to 6-1.

Mezzenga stayed hot, adding a double in the third and another home run his second of the game in the ninth. Minnesota State's offense kept piling on with contributions from nearly every bat in the lineup. Aidan Byrne was a consistent spark, tallying multiple hits and scoring runs, while Stroh and Jake Berkland combined for six RBIs.

Minot State briefly threatened with a six-run fifth, cutting the deficit to 10-7. But the Mavericks responded with a relentless ninth inning, exploding for nine runs to put the game far out of reach. Key moments included Berkland's two-RBI single and Mezzenga's two-run single, capping off a career day at the plate.

"I'm really proud of how the team found a way to win despite having a rough stretch in the middle innings. Games like this will help us grow and improve in the long run." Said head coach Matt Magers.

The Mavericks are back in action as they finish up the series tomorrow afternoon at 12 pm.
