The Mavericks Take the Fourth Game from the Beavers

MINOT, N.D. – The Minnesota State Mavericks (25-2, 19-1 NSIC) closed out their series against Minot State (12-16, 7-13 NSIC) with a 10-6-win Monday afternoon at Corbett Field in Minot, North Dakota.

The Mavericks came out swinging in the top of the first, plating two runs on a two-RBI double by Jake Berkland. MSU added another run in the third inning when Brandon Vlcko delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0. Minot State responded in the bottom half of the inning with a two-RBI double to cut the lead to one.

MSU maintained its one-run lead until the seventh when Logan Miller drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Vlcko followed with a three-run homer to give the Mavericks a 7-2 cushion.

The Beavers made it interesting late, with Riddle hitting a two-run homer in the eighth and adding another two-run shot in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback. In between, MSU's offense kept rolling with another three runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a three-run blast from Zach Stroh.

Vlcko led the Mavericks with four runs batted in, including the big homer in the seventh. Berkland chipped in two runs batted in, while Stroh added three of his own with his ninth-inning homer. On the mound, Mack Crowley earned the win for the Mavericks making him 4-0 for the season.

"We were able to jump out right away and establish a lead. Crowley gave us a quality start on the mound. Stroh capped a tremendous weekend at the plate with a big home run in the 9th to seal it." Said head coach Matt Magers.

The Mavericks have a quick turnaround as they head to Winona State for a double header on Wednesday April 9th at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
