MANKATO, Minn. – No. 5 ranked Minnesota State women's outdoor track and field vaulted to first place among nine colleges Wednesday afternoon at the Maverick Open #1. The meet took place at the Mark Schuck Outdoor Track & Field Complex. The Mavericks finished ahead of Sioux Falls (129) and Winona State (91.5).
"It was great to compete at home and have our entire team together in one place," reflected head coach
Mike Turgeon. "We're looking forward to making a few small adjustments on Thursday at practice and returning to action on Friday at the Maverick Open #2."
After 110 meter hurdle and 100 meter prelims,
Elizabeth Schmidt set a season best and finished second in the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 56.69.
Madison Hubbard followed with a second place time in 100 meter dash (12.18).
Nikita Lebbie crossed the line fourth with a personal best (12.44).
Noemie Thibaud impressed in 100 meter hurdle finals with a first place time of 13.81 (13
th in Division II).
Ally Hammond took third in the same event (14.15).
Lillian Strong placed fourth in 200 meters (25.21) for the Mavericks. Then in middle distance,
Ashley Overgaauw led the field in 1500 meters with a time of 4:36.23. Teammate
Makayla Bishop was third in 4:44.24 (season best).
Seven top-85 marks were set by competitors in shot put, including second place
Emma Osier with a mark of 13.84m (32
nd in Division II).
Julia Alberts took fourth in discus throw with a mark of 45.36m (148-10)(47
th in Division II, personal best).
Maya Shorter finished fourth for the Mavericks in javelin after setting a mark of 37.21m (122-01).
Kassidy Siedow placed seventh (32.91m, 107-11) and Katelin Flack was eighth (32.00, 105-00).
Lillian Washington posted the best mark in high jump at 1.68m (5-6.00), a season best (37
th in Division II).
Olivia Solis was also fourth (1.63m, 5-4.25).
Elvira Collvin won the pole vault event with a mark of 3.95m (12-11.50)(17
th in Division II).
Makayla Miles placed fifth (3.60m, 11-9.75).
With a couple of the top ranking times in Division II this spring, MacKenzie Wissbroeker (Winona State) edged out
Adeyah Brewster in long jump. Wissbroecker's mark of 6.31m (20-8.50) was second best in the nation this year. Brewster's second place mark of 6.25m (20.6.25) was third in Division II.
Molly Kahl also posted a fourth place mark in long jump, landing 6.11m (20-00.50)(personal best, 12
th in Division II).
Stella Neophytou headlined triple jump in first place with a mark of 12.65m (41-6.00)(season best, 4
th in Division II).
Ashanti Harvey posted a third place mark (11.85m, 38-10.50, 30
th in Division II).
Lily Beneke took first place in hammer throw for the Mavericks (55.79m, 183-00). Minnesota State is back in action on Friday when it hosts the Maverick Open #2 on MSU campus in the final tune up before the NSIC Outdoor Championships May 8-10 at James S. Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota.
