MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State women's hockey named
Taylor Otremba (Lakeville, Minn.) its team captain and
Kianna Roeske (Paynesville, Minn.) its alternate captain for the 2025-26 season.
"We are excited for Taylor and Kianna to lead throughout the spring and summer as we prepare for the 2025-26 season," said head coach
Shari Dickerman. "Both are excellent hockey players and even better people. We are confident that they will be able to welcome a large contingent of newcomers to our program and show them what it means to be a Maverick."
Otremba will be a senior forward this fall. In three seasons at Minnesota State, she has played in 111 games with 28 goals and 40 assists for 68 points. As a junior, she scored 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points and was named a WCHA Scholar Athlete. In the circle, she won 237 of 532 faceoffs. On November 23, Otremba helped the Mavericks upset No. 2 Ohio State 4-1 at home with two goals (including the game-winning goal) and one assist.
Otremba takes the mantle as team captain following the graduation of
Sydney Langseth (Eden Prairie, Minn.) who finished sixth on the MSU all-time scoring chart with 90 points. She is the all-time leader in games played with 162. In 2022-23, Otremba earned WCHA Rookie of the Week and WCHA Rookie of the Month accolades and was a member of the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
Roeske will be a senior defenseman in the fall. She appeared in 37 games in her third campaign and scored three goals with eight assists. She also recorded 51 shots on goal and 24 blocked shots. Roeske posted one assist in the WCHA quarterfinals against Minnesota. Among her career accolades are WCHA Scholar Athlete (twice), AHCA Krampade All-American Scholar and WCHA Defender of the Week. Roeske has 111 games played with seven goals, 12 assists and 19 points on the blue line.
The Mavericks defeated No. 3 ranked Minnesota in game two of the WCHA quarterfinals in March but fell in the third and final game at Ridder Arena.
