WAYNE, Neb. --- The Minnesota State women's golf team finished round one of the Wayne State Invitational in fourth place Monday afternoon.
The two-round Wayne State Invitational is being held at the par-72 Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb. The Mavericks turned in a 331 (+43) after round one. Wayne State and Augustana sit atop the team standings with 322 (+34), while Montana State-Billings shot a 325 (+37). Augustana's Shannon McCormick leads the individual standings after day one with a 76 (+4).
"The women played in really tough conditions and kept themselves in it," assistant coach
Todd Pfingsten said. "The wind normally blows in Wayne, Neb., but these conditions as tough as I have seen. We experienced 25-40 mile per hour winds, 50s and some rain and sleet towards the end of the round.
"We look forward to tomorrow as we have an opportunity to move up the leaderboard and in better weather conditions."
Sophomore
Victoria Woytassek led the way for the Mavericks in round one as finished the day in 10th place with an 82 (+10). Freshman
Emerson Garlie, junior
Samantha Youngquist and graduate student
Kelly Winter each followed in 16th place with a score of 83 (+11). Junior
Ava Olson added an 84 (+12) also.
Independently, junior
Lauren Rebrovich shot an 85 (+13), while sophomore
Emma Berge posted an 89 (+17) also.
