BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team finished the two-round NSIC Preview in eighth place Tuesday afternoon.
The NSIC Preview was held at the par-72 Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. The Mavericks recorded a 295-299—594 (+18) to finish in a tied with Minnesota Crookston for eighth place. Concordia-St. Paul finished first as it shot a 286-286—572 (-4). CSP's Thomas Gutzmer led the individual standings as he shot a 67-68—135 (-9).
"Unfortunately the day did not go how we wanted," head coach
Alex Schmitz said. "Trying to find someone to step up and be a leader as we just have played pretty mid so far this spring. We have a week off and then one event to figure out the right five guys."
Junior
Marcus Belka led the Mavericks as he shot a 74-72—146 (+2)to finish in a tie for 25
th. Belka notched 14 pars and two birdies during round two. Junior
Ryan Darling added a 75-73—148 (+4), while sophomore
Jack Schrader followed right behind with a +5 as he shot 73-76—149.
Junior
Hogan Ordal added a 74-78—152 (+8) also, while senior
Alex Bradley posted a 74-79—153 (+9) as well.
Independently, freshman
Jack Justesen tallied a 74-74—148 (+4), while freshman
Michael Johnson posted a 76-75—151 (7). Junior
Leo Werschay shot an 80-78—158 (+14) also.
Minnesota State returns to action on April 7 as it takes part in the two-day Firekeeper Open at the Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan.
