MANKATO, Minn. – Top rated Minnesota State women's indoor track & field was in action Friday (Feb. 7) at the Ted Nelson Classic (Myers Field House) and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. MSU accumulated 278 points in Mankato, ahead of Augustana (151) and Minnesota Duluth (119).
"This weekend, we split our roster, sending a dozen athletes to Nebraska for additional experience on a banked track as we gear up for nationals," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "Meanwhile, a large group rested in preparation for our two premier meets next weekend. Our Mavericks competing at home performed exceptionally well, with many of our younger athletes stepping up and shining in competition. We're excited to host two separate meets next Friday and Saturday. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there."
The Mavericks had each of the top four finishers in 3000 meters at the Ted Nelson Classic, including
Madison Matzek with a personal record time of 10:08.95 for first place.
Ashley Overgaauw led the mile run with a time of 5:07.26, ahead of four Augustana athletes.
Brianna Shroyer also won the 400 meters in a time of 57.13 for the Mavericks.
Isabela Shepard set a meet record and personal best, first place 600 meters with a time of 1:34.48.
Precious Olatunji posted a top time of 9.06 in 60 meter hurdles for MSU. In 1000 meter distance,
Makayla Bishop crossed the line first in 3:03.46.
In pole vault,
Elvira Collvin posted a height of 3.81m (12-6.00) over teammate
Hope Stangel (3.66m, 12-0.00).
Emma Osier won the shot put event with a personal record 13.40m (43-11.75), good for 37
th in Division II.
Lily Beneke headlined weight throw with a PR mark of 17.78m (58-4.00), 21
st in Division II.
In Lincoln, Nebraska,
Adeyah Brewster ran to fourth in 60 meter prelims with a time of 7.52 (23rd in Division II). In 400 meter finals,
Eilika Lane crossed third with a time of 55.47 (17th in Division II).
Grace Johnson led the field in 60 meter hurdle prelims with a time of 8.43. Brewster was right behind in second place (8.46). Brewster ran a first place time of 8.41 in the finals (fourth in Division II).
Brewster came in third in 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.56.
Grace Obour posted a sixth place finish in 200 meter dash with a time of 24.46.
Minnesota State women's indoor track & field is currently rated No. 9 in Division II. MSU hosts the Maverick Premier #1 on Friday, February 14 at Myers Field House.
