MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State men's track & field accumulated 251 points, ahead of Minnesota Duluth (106) and Southwest Minnesota State (97.5) at the Ted Nelson Classic Friday at Myers Field House. The Mavericks also sent a contingent of student-athletes to Lincoln, Nebraska for competition in the
Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
"This weekend, we split our roster, sending a dozen athletes to Nebraska for additional experience on a banked track as we gear up for nationals," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "Meanwhile, a large group rested in preparation for our two premier meets next weekend. Our Mavericks competing at home performed exceptionally well, with many of our younger athletes stepping up and shining in competition. We're excited to host two separate meets next Friday and Saturday. We look forward to seeing everyone there."
On the track in Mankato,
Marvin Dure led the men's 400 meters with a time of 49.16. The Mavericks took each of the top four positions in 60 meter hurdles with
Keaton Wattier in first with a time of 8.14.
Sam Eben Ebai set a personal best and number one time of 6.79 in 60 meter dash (37
th in Division II) while
Maquanet Collins held down the 800 meters with the top time of 1:57.03.
Leif Larsen was the best in the 1000 meter field (2:34.21) and Eben Ebai finished first in 200 meters at 22.00.
Ray Ure (15:15.47) and
Adam Bohm (15:34.70) took first and second in 5000 meters.
Austin Welsch headlined long jump for the Mavericks with a mark of 6.56m (21-6.25).
Alex Berg nabbed pole position in pole vault at 4.63m (15-2.25).
Michael Meadowcroft was first in high jump, hitting 1.98m (6-6.00, 74
th in Division II).
Ben Wieser's second place shot put (16.67m, 54-8.25) was a season best and 26
th in Division II.
Liam Byrne closed out weight throw with a top mark of 18.21m (59-9.00).
At University of Nebraska,
Kemarri Stewart ran 6.72 in 60 meter dash prelims to advance, along with
Jabez Reeves in seventh (6.80). Stewart ran 6.76 in the finals for fourth place.
Jabez Reeves took second with a time of 6.73 (17th in Division II).
Richlu Tudee came in sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.70.
Jalen McGee was eighth in 60 meter hurdle prelims (8.32) and second in long jump (7.37m, 24-2.25)(16th in Division II). He ran 8.03 in 60 meter hurdle finals for fourth (T-20th in Division II).
Minnesota State men's indoor track & field is currently rated No. 9 in Division II. MSU hosts the Maverick Premier #1 on Friday, February 14 at Myers Field House.
