MANKATO, Minn. – No. 1 Minnesota State women's track and field eased into another victory Friday afternoon at Myers Field House at the Maverick Invite. The Maverick accumulated 313.5 points, finishing well ahead of Southwest Minnesota State (78), Gustavus Adolphus (67), Saint Mary's (43), Martin Luther (19) and Bethany Lutheran College (12).
"We had 3/8 of our team resting in preparation for the conference meet, while the rest competed between the University of Minnesota and our home meet," commented head coach
Mike Turgeon. "Friday night was especially meaningful as we honored 48 seniors and their families during our annual Senior Night. Many of these seniors began their collegiate journey during the pandemic and have played a pivotal role in shaping the future of our program. Our coaching staff is incredibly humbled and grateful for their dedication to making MSU Track and Field what it is today."
Paige Hickson set a meet record in women's pole vault with her number one finish at 3.84m (12-7.25).
Ashley Cridlebaugh also had a strong outing in high jump with the top mark of 1.68m (5-6.00)(personal best, 41
st in Division II).
Mony was money in weight throw for the Mavericks. Her number one mark at 17.96m (58-11.25) landed
Mony Andersen 21
st in Division II this season.
Lily Beneke took second with a mark of 17.87m (58-7.50)(24
th in Division II).
Jocelyn Hart led the shot put event with a mark of 13.27m (43-6.50)(53
rd in Division II, personal best).
The Mavericks were led with all four top finishes in the 200 meters, including first place
Antianna Walsh (25.45) and second place
Elizabeth Schmidt (26.00, season best). MSU also swept the podium in the mile run, with Ashley Overgaauw leading the pack in 5:03.41.
Makayla Bishop finished second with a personal best time of 5:13.39.
Emilynn Molesky hit the top time in 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.26, followed by teammate
Esther Miller (9.29).
Madison Hubbard took second in 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.76 (season best).
Grace Hambel also crossed second in 400 meters with a time of 59.25.
Shae Rumsey placed second in 600 meters with a personal record time of 1:40.58.
Kennedy Speer had the top time in 800 meters at 2:21.87. Amanda Overgaauw set the time to beat in 3000 meters, completing the distance in 10:14.54.
Minnesota State's next meet is the NSIC Indoor Championships, hosted Feb 28-Mar. 1 at Myers Field House. MSU will contend for their fifth straight NSIC women's indoor track & field title.
