MANKATO, Minn. – Similar to Friday, Minnesota State men's indoor track & field dominated at Myers Field House with numerous first place finishes at the Maverick Premier #2. The Mavericks accumulated 264.5 points to finish atop the team standings, ahead of Concordia-St. Paul (69) and UMary (30).
"We were excited to host the Maverick Premier #2 and give our student-athletes another opportunity to build on their season performances," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "This meet was a great chance for our team to continue developing, compete against strong competition, and set the tone for the remainder of the season. Our student-athletes have been putting in the work, and we're eager to see their efforts pay off as we look ahead to our conference and national championships over the next four weeks."
Richlu Tudee set a meet record with a first place 60 meter dash time of 6.76.
Diego Sekiyama-Nava topped the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 (35
th in Division II). Teammate
Keaton Wattier was second with a time of 8.20.
Qai Hussey set a meet record and season best time of 21.96 in 200 meters but still trailed Del Johnson Jr. of Concordia St-Paul, who ran it in 21.70.
Qamerin Hussey led MSU with a second place showing in 400 meters with a personal best time of 50.98. The Mavericks took each of the top five spots in 800 meters, including four season bests.
Kaleb Foltz led the field with a time of 1:51.68.
Adam Bohm also crossed the line first in the mile run, with a time of 4:21.23. MSU assembled a 4x400m relay team, consisting of
Jaden Howell,
Marvin Dure,
Qai Hussey and
Junior Pontes Da Veiga. They covered the distance in 3:15.98.
In the field,
Jalen McGee took second in high jump at a height of 1.94m (6-4.25).
Slade Heald was third in long jump at a season best distance of 7.31m (23-11.75)(23
rd in Division II).
Blake Wakeling and
Alex Berg led Maverick pole vaulters. Wakeling and Berg topped out at 4.60m (15-1.00).
Dylan Gross posted the best mark in shot put at 16.74m (54-11.25), just ahead of
Ben Wieser's 15.94m (52-3.75).
Liam Byrne placed first in weight throw with a toss of 18.89m (61-11.75)(15
th in Division II).
No. 8 ranked Minnesota State will host the Maverick Open next on February 21 at Myers Field House. The NSIC Indoor Championships take place Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in Mankato.
