MANKATO, Minn. – No. 1 ranked Minnesota State women's track and field polished off a win at the Maverick Premier #1 Friday afternoon at Myers Field House with 247.66 points, ahead of Sioux Falls (89.33) and Cal Poly Pomona (74).
"We are two weeks away from our conference championships and four weeks from nationals," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "This weekend marks the start of the championship phase of our season, where we see our training pay off. Across multiple event groups, our student-athletes delivered lifetime bests in the first of our two Maverick Premier meets. We're looking forward to Saturday's Maverick Premier #2, where we'll close out the meet by chasing national qualifying times in the 4x400m relay."
Adeyah Brewster kicked off the 60 meter finals in first place with a meet record and personal best time of 7.49 (18
th in Division II).
Ally Hammond was second, also with a meet record of 7.52 (21
st in Division II).
The Mavericks continued their dominance of hurdles this season, taking five of the top six positions.
Grace Johnson was first in 8.37 (T-3
rd in Division II). Johnson holds four of the top five 60 meter hurdle times run in Division II this season, including the top time of 8.28 set on Feb. 1.
Adeyah Brewster crossed third in 8.48 and
Esaba Okwaramoi was fourth in 8.57.
Antianna Walsh posted a season best time of 25.00 for second place in 200 meters, as did
Eilika Lane for first place in 400 meters with a time of 55.27.
In middle distance,
Makayla Bishop was MSU's top finisher with a time of 2:20.77 in the 800 meter distance. Ashley Overgaauw set a meet record in the mile with a blistering time of 5:02.29 and first place. Overgaauw also placed second in 3000 meters with a personal record 10:11.20.
Noemie Thibaud posted the top high jump mark at 1.74m (5-8.50), which at 10
th in Division II this season.
Olivia Solis was second with a mark of 1.64m (5-4.50). Brewster came away with a mark of 5.94m (19-6.00) in long jump, good for first place (14
th in Division II).
Elvira Collvin led the Mavericks in pole vault. The freshman was first at a height of 3.97m (13-0.25), a personal record (#14 in Division II). Teammate
Paige Hickson was second (3.82m, 12-6.25).
Mony Andersen headlined weight throw in second place with a season best mark of 18.02m (59-1.50)(21
st in Division II).
Ashley Cridlebaugh closed out the day with a second place showing in triple jump with a season best mark of 11.32m (37-1.75).
Minnesota State returns to action Saturday, February 15 at Myers Field House for the Maverick Premier #2.
