Records Fall at Mark Schuck Open & Multi for MSU Women’s Track & Field

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State women's indoor track & field posted a new MSU pentathlon record at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi Friday and Saturday at Myers Field House.
 
The Mavericks faced competition from Southwest Minnesota State, Sioux Falls, Wayne State College, Concordia-St. Paul, Bethany Lutheran, Minnesota Duluth, Gustavus Adolphus, Minnesota Morris, Macalester, North Iowa Area CC, St. Catherine (Minn.), St. Thomas, Omaha, North Central, Viterbo, Augustana, Saint John's, and Marquette.

"What a weekend for MSU Track and Field," said head coach Mike Turgeon. "We hosted a 25-team meet with nearly 900 student-athletes competing. The coaches are very pleased with how our team is coming together as we transition into February and begin peaking our student-athletes for championship season."
 
SATURDAY
TRACK
Senior Grace Johnson set a meet record in 60 meter hurdles, with a finals personal record time of 8.32. Adeyah Brewster was second in 8.45 (season best, fifth in Division II). Ally Hammond came across third in 8.45 (personal record, sixth in Division II).
 
MSU dominated 200 meters, including a meet and facility record set by senior Robynn Rolle-Curry (24.41). Senior Eilika Lane was right behind with a meet record and personal best time of 24.64.
 
Ashley Overgaauw took first place in the mile with a personal record time of 4:59.74.
 
Hammond also finished second in 60 meter dash with a time of 7.60 (39th in Division II). Grace Obour also took fourth in 400 meters with a time of 58.55. Chloe Judisch was the Mavericks' top finisher in 600 meters with a time of 1:14.41 for fifth place.
 
Senior Isabela Shepard crossed the line second in 800 meters with a time of 2:17.57. The Mavericks occupied spots four, five and six in 1000 meters with Isabella Renlund leading the way (3:06.89).
 
Junior Alexi MacDonald won the 5000 meters with a personal best time of 18:08.9.
 
FIELD
Freshman Arabella Knudson placed third in long jump with a mark of 5.75m (18-10.50), 27th in Division II. Junior Lillian Washington turned in a strong performance in high jump with a mark of 1.72m (5-7.75). The mark was 14th in Division II. Senior Olivia Solis came in second with a personal best 1.66m (5-5.25).
 
The Mavericks grabbed second and third in weight throw with junior Mony Andersen (17.24m, 56-6.75) and senior Lily Beneke (16.94m, 55-7.00).
 
Freshman Jocelyn Hart grabbed third in shot put with a mark of 12.95m (42-6.00).
 
Paige Hickson helped the Mavericks to first place in pole vault, at a height of 3.76m (12-4.00).
 
FRIDAY
Junior Miranda Lauvstad and Sophomore Victoriia Ermolaeva each eclipsed the Minnesota State indoor pentathlon school record Friday, with Lauvstad's first place score of 4,074 and Ermolaeva's second place score of 3,904. Ermolaeva previously held the record of 3,854, set last season at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
 
Lauvstad's score is second only to Ester Conde-Turpin (Azusa Pacific, 4,258) this season in Division II. Ermolaeva sits fourth. Alexa Post also had a strong finish in the event for MSU, with a score of 3,610, good for 10th in Division II.
 
Madison Matzek ran a season best for first place (10:20.78) and Amanda Overgaauw ran a personal best (10:21.17) for second place in the 3000 meter run on Friday.
 
Makayla Bishop, Brianna Shroyer, Isabela Shepard and Overgaauw each ran a leg of the distance medley relay and took first with a time of 12:11.51, ahead of Omaha and Southwest Minnesota State. It was the fourth quickest time in Division II this season.
 
Minnesota State indoor track & field hosts the Ted Nelson Classic next on Friday, February 7.
