MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State (9-7-1) defeated Dartmouth College (2-8-1), 5-2, at home. The Mavericks scored three goals in the third period to secure the win, while the Big Green managed two goals across the second and third periods.
The first period began with Minnesota State winning the initial faceoff, setting a competitive tone for the early minutes. Despite several offensive attempts, the Mavericks were unable to convert any shots into goals, with
Lauren Zawoyski and
Makayla Moran each testing the Big Green's defense. The Mavericks had a power play opportunity after a hooking penalty against Dartmouth's Shae Messner, but Dartmouth's goalie, Michaela Hesová, made crucial saves to keep the game scoreless. The period ended with neither team finding the back of the net, leaving the scoreboard at 0-0.
Minnesota State increased their advantage in the second period when
Mercury Bischoff converted a penalty shot at 12:29, marking her ninth goal of the season.
Whitney Tuttle extended the lead with an even-strength goal, assisted by
Sophie Stramel and
Lucie Tenenbaum, at 8:59. The Big Green responded with a goal from Bridget Pringle at 6:40, narrowing the gap. The period concluded with the Mavericks leading 2-1.
The Mavericks took control early in the third period with
Ayla Puppe scoring an even-strength goal at 15:18, assisted by
Lilie Ramirez and Tuttle, increasing their lead to 3-1. The momentum continued as
Lauren Goldsworthy and
Zoe Lopez each scored within 22 seconds of each other, with Zawoyski assisting on both plays, pushing the advantage to 5-1. Dartmouth managed to respond with a goal from Miami Jones at 08:03, but it was not enough to mount a comeback. The period concluded with the Mavericks maintaining their lead, securing a 5-2 victory.
Goldsworthy scored one goal on two shots and finished the game with a minus-one rating. Tuttle contributed a goal and an assist, tallying two points from two shots. Puppe recorded the game-winning goal as part of her one-goal effort, adding to her plus-two rating. Lopez added to the offensive output with a goal on two shots, contributing to a plus-one performance.
The Mavericks improved to 9-7-1 overall after their victory over the Big Green. Dartmouth fell to 2-8-1 overall following the road loss.
