MADISON, Wis. — Minnesota State fell to Wisconsin 8-0 on Sunday at the LaBahn Arena. The Badgers scored four goals in the first period. The Mavericks managed 29 shots on goal, but the Badgers' goaltender turned away each attempt. Despite the Mavericks' efforts, including 14 shots in the second period, they could not break through the home team's defense.
Wisconsin opened the scoring at 4:50 into the first period when Hannah Halverson found the back of the net. The Badgers doubled their lead at 11:42 as Lacey Eden scored. Wisconsin continued to apply pressure, and Kelly Gorbatenko extended the advantage to 3-0 at 8:06. The period concluded with Cassie Hall adding a fourth goal at 19:08, leaving the Mavericks trailing 4-0 at the end of the first period.
Hailey Hansen made several saves for the Mavericks, but Wisconsin's offensive efforts proved too formidable.
In the second period,
Avery Stilwell took over in goal for the Mavericks. Wisconsin extended its lead early in the second period with a goal at 15:38. The Mavericks faced defensive pressure, managing to block several shots, but struggled to capitalize on their own offensive opportunities. The Badgers scored again at 9:49 to bring the score to 6-0. Despite the Mavericks' attempts on goal, including a flurry of shots toward the period's end, they were unable to score.
Wisconsin started the third period by scoring at 19:05, extending their lead to 7-0 with an even-strength goal. The Badgers scored again at 14:33, pushing the score to 8-0. The Mavericks had multiple shot attempts, including efforts by
Whitney Tuttle and
Zoe Lopez, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Minnesota State holds a 5-5-0 overall record and is 1-5-0 in conference play.
In their next game, Minnesota State will face Bemidji State on October 31 at 6:02 p.m. The matchup will take place at Mayo Clinic HSEC in Mankato, Minn., with the Mavericks hosting the event.
