St. Charles, Mo. – Minnesota State secured a 4-1 victory over Lindenwood in the second game of their non-conference weekend series on Saturday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
After dominating Friday's matchup with an 8-1 win, highlighted by
Whitney Tuttle's four-goal performance, the Mavericks carried their momentum into Saturday's game.
The scoring opened late in the first period when
Lauren Goldsworthy found the back of the net, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Lindenwood (3-16-1, 2-6-0 AHA) responded early in the second period, tying the game 1-1. However, the Mavericks quickly regained control just one minute later, as
Alexis Paddington fired a straight shot to reclaim the lead, making it 2-1.
In the opening seconds of the third period,
Taylor Otremba capitalized on a breakaway opportunity, extending the Mavericks' lead to 3-1. Lindenwood pulled their goaltender with five minutes remaining, but
Jamie Nelson sealed the game with an empty-net goal.
Minnesota State's
Jessie McPherson delivered a strong performance in goal, recording a .955 save percentage. The Mavericks dominated the offensive zone and outshot the Lions 37-22.
"I thought we had another solid game from the net out. Jessie made some good saves and we were able to capitalize on a few of our opportunities. Great to have Lauren Goldsworthy pick up her first career goal and we had scoring from a few different lines." stated head coach Shari Dickerman. Next week, the Mavericks (10-9-1, 4-9-1 WCHA) travel to play No. 1 ranked Wisconsin on Friday at 5:02 p.m. and Saturday at 2:02 p.m.
