RICHMOND, Minn. – Mackenzie Bourgerie and
Madison Mashuga each scored twice as Minnesota State women's hockey closed out University of Manitoba 6-2 in an exhibition contest at River Lakes Civic Arena Saturday night.
Whitney Tuttle and
Kamryn Van Batavia also posted goals for the Mavericks.

At the home ice arena of head coach
Shari Dickerman, MSU outshot Manitoba 14-6 in the opening period. Bourgerie spun around and roofed a shot for an unassisted goal at 7:18 for a 1-0 lead. Bourgerie then tallied her second at 10:13 of the second period with an assist from Bella Shipley before Ashley Keller got the Bisons on the scoreboard less than three minutes later.

On the power play, Tuttle scored off a pass from
JuliAnna Gazdik and the Mavericks took a 3-1 lead into the final frame.

Mashuga scored both of her goals in the third with assists from Tuttle and Lauren Goldsworthy. In total, MSU outshot Manitoba 50-26, including an 18-6 edge in the middle period. The Mavericks went 1-1 on the power play while Manitoba finished 0-3.

Hailey Hansen and Jessie McPherson all played one period in goal for Minnesota State.

"It was really good to be back in this building and overall a good first day for us. It was such a warm reception," said head coach
Shari Dickerman. "Everybody got to play and we did a good job of pushing the pace. Our new players had a chance to wear the jersey and kind of see how we run things on the bench. Hopefully, we have some video clips to run through and learn from so we can be ready to go next weekend."

Minnesota State's 2024-25 season got underway Saturday in front of a capacity crowd in Richmond, Minnesota and Maverick players stayed to sign autographs for dozens of fans in attendance.

The Mavericks begin the regular season October 4-5 against Long Island University at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Event Center in Mankato.
