MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State (1-0) women's hockey won the first game of a non-conference weekend series over Long Island University (0-1) 4-0 Friday night at the Mayo Clinic HSEC. It was the first regular season victory for first-year head coach
Shari Dickerman.
In the 4
th minute of the game, junior
Whitney Tuttle scored the first goal of the season assisted by seniors
Madison Mashuga and
Sydney Langseth.
In the first period the Mavericks held the Sharks to just one shot on goal while the Mavericks posted 17 shots of their own. MSU's
Claire Vekich found the back of the net on MSU's first power play, assisted by
JuliAnna Gazdik and Langseth.
In the 10
th minute of period two,
Taylor Otremba scored her first goal of the season, assisted by
Kianna Roeske and
Jamie Nelson.
Whitney Tuttle posted her second goal of the night in the 19
th minute assisted by Mashuga and
Jenessa Gazdik.
Minnesota State takes on LIU in a second game Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 pm. in Mankato.
