LAKE CITY, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's golf team wrapped up the Watkins Invitational in third place Tuesday.
The MSU "A" team shot a 295-282—577 (+5), while the Maverick "B" team finished seventh with a 296-296—592 (+20). Concordia-St. Paul finished first with a 280-285—565 (-7). CSP's Josh Easterly finished first individually with a 65-71—136 (-7).
"The men came back today and made a lot of birdies and put themselves in a lot of good positions to score well," head coach
Alex Schmitz said. "We'll continue to work in practice on executing shots from the scoring distances to finish final three fall events strong."
The Maverick teams were led by a trio of players who all finished in a tie for eighth as they shot -1 for the event.
Alex Bradley and
Karson Patten both shot 72-870—142 for the Maverick "A" team while
Hogan Ordal shot 70-72—142 for the Maverick "B" team.
Ryan Darling finished in a tied for 12th as he shot a 74-69—143 (E), which included a stretch on day two where he made recorded birdies in nine holes.
Marcus Belka finished in a tie for 30th as he shot a 77-73—150 (+7), while
Leon Werschay posted a 78-76—154 (+11).
For the Maverick "B" team,
Jack Schrader finished 26th with a score of 76-73—149 (+6), while
Jack Justesen finished in a tied for 30th also as he shot 73-77—150 (+7).
Logan Peroutka added a 77-74—151 (+8) to finish in a tied for 38th, while
Michael Johnson shot 80-81—161 (+18).
Minnesota State continues its season at the NCAA Regional Preview on Oct. 7-8. The event will be hosted by Missouri Western at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo.
