Joey Batt Earns Minnesota State’s Georgene Brock Award

MANKATO, Minn. --- Following a vote by Minnesota State coaches and staff members, senior Joey Batt has received the Georgene Brock Award as Minnesota State's most well-rounded senior female student-athlete.

Hailing from New Ulm, Minn., Batt is the 14th member of the Maverick women's basketball team to receive the Georgene Brock Award. The last Minnesota State women's basketball player to garner the award was Liz Trauger during the 2009-10 season.

Batt boasted a 3.97 GPA and majored in elementary education. She was named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence four times. As a junior, she was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, before becoming the seventh Maverick in team history to garner CSC Academic All-American honors during her senior season. She also received the NSIC Myles Brand Award and was named the NSIC's Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year.

Along with her accolades in the classroom, Batt excelled on the court as she was named to the All-NSIC First Team four times and the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year three times. The Mavericks reached the NCAA Tournament three times during her time with the Mavericks. As a senior Batt helped the Mavericks win their second NSIC regular season championship and their first NSIC Tournament Championship. She went on to claim NCAA Central Region Tournament MVP honors, before helping the team win its second NCAA Championship in team history. Batt garnered WBCA and D2CCA All-American honors.

Batt finished her career at Minnesota State ranked first in steals (381), first in games played (136), second in points (1,937), second in free throws made (431), third in field goals made (684), fourth in field goal attempts (1,574), fifth in assists (421), sixth in three pointers attempted (432) and eighth in three pointers made (138).

Others nominated for the award include Charlotte Akervick (Women's Hockey), McKayla Armbruster (Softball), Chiara Carnelutti (Tennis), Anna Cihak (Women's Golf), Ella DeFever (Swimming & Diving), MaKenna Thurston (Women's Cross Country) and Allie Williams (Soccer).
