MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State University women's outdoor track and field hosted the Maverick Open #2 at the Mark Schuck Outdoor Track & Field Complex Saturday.
Hope Stangel posted an impressive mark in pole vault and
Lauren Bird excelled in hammer throw for the Mavericks, who finished first in team rankings ahead of Sioux Falls, St. Cloud State, Gustavus Adolphus and Winona State.
Stangel's first place pole vault mark was 3.72m (12'2.50"), just off her season best 3.77m (12'4.5") set at the Drake Alternative meet. Bird, a freshman, marked a season best in hammer throw with a mark of 52.21m (171'3"), good for first place. Bird also placed fourth in shot put.
Le'Nehja Norwood finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.16 (w:1.6).
Lillian Strong was second. Norwood also won the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.63 ahead of
Antianna Walsh.
Brianna Shroyer took the 400 meter dash in 59.36. In middle distance,
Kennedy Speer won the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.20.
Adeyah Brewster crossed the line first in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.89 (w:0.6).
In the field,
Madeline Fretag placed second in shot put with a mark of 13.97m (45'10").
Maya Shorter topped the podium in discus throw at 37.89m (124'4").
The Mavericks are prepared to host the NSIC Outdoor Championships May 9-11 at Mark Schuck Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
