Thurston and Ermolaeva Smash Records at Maverick Open #1

Mankato, Minn. – The Mavericks women's outdoor track and field squad started this week of competition with momentous performances throughout the day, amounting to a first place team finish with 205.5 points.
 
Starting off the day in field events, freshman Victoriia Ermolaeva flew past the facility and meet records in the long jump with a distance of 5.99m (19' 8"). This personal best jump for Ermolaeva ranks her 21st in the national rankings and third on the MSU all-time top outdoor performances list. Junior Molly Kahl placed fifth in the long jump, jumping for 5.77m (18' 11.25"), along with sophomore Miranda Lauvstad finishing in eighth with a jump of 5.60m (18' 4.5").
 
In the high jump, sophomore Lillian Washington placed second after clearing a height of 1.65m (5' 5"). With a jump of 1.55m (5' 1"), junior Olivia Solis finished in seventh, along with senior Lauren Preiner in ninth after a jump of 1.50m (4' 11").
 
Senior Paige Hickson started the lineup for placing in the pole vault with a vault of 4.06m (13' 3.75m), with freshman Hope Stangel coming in second after a good vault at 3.56m (11' 8"). Taking fifth place was freshman Willow Oehmichen with a height of 3.41m (11' 2.25") and freshman Jadyn Klein finishing in seventh (3.26m, 10' 8.25"). With vaults of 3.11m (10' 2.5"), junior Toryn Richards placed eighth, and sophomore Jenna Sikels and junior Paige Bauer tied for ninth place.
 
Making waves in the triple jump were freshman Ghada Hamdani and junior Stella Neophytou. Hamdani, placing second with a personal record jump of 12.81m (42' 00.5"), ranks third nationally and second on the MSU all-time list. Moving up to third on the MSU all-time list, Neophytou also ranks on the national list at sixth. Both marks break the previous facility and meet records of 12.57m.
 
Moving to throws, senior Madeline Fretag's throw of 44.79m (146' 11") was good for fourth place in the discus throw, with senior Mack Rath not far behind in fifth after a throw of 44.36m (145' 6"). Freshman Aubri Brown threw for 44.20m (145') to place sixth, followed by freshman Elise Jensen finishing in ninth after a throw of 41.10m (134' 11").
 
Fretag took first place in the shot put with a throw of 14.09m (46' 2.75"). Freshman Lauren Bird had a personal best throw of 13.26m (43' 6") to place fifth, with Brown taking sixth, also with a personal best throw (13.06m, 42' 10.25"). In ninth, freshman Elli Heisinger threw for 11.95m (39' 2.5").
 
Brown also competed in the hammer throw, throwing for a personal best distance of 50.64m (166' 1") to place fifth and rank ninth on the MSU all-time list now.
 
Freshman Maya Shorter came in fourth place in the javelin throw with a throw of 34.85m (114' 4"). Jensen finished in tenth after throwing for 30.98m (101' 7").
 
Looking to the track, junior Tijuanique Morton placed third in the 100m finals with a time of 12.26s, with freshman Madison Hubbard just behind with a time of 12.39s to finish in fourth.
 
Senior Denisha Cartwright broke the previous facility and meet record in the 200m dash and finished in first place with a time of 23.52s. In second place, senior Rose Cramer crossed the line at 24.50s, with freshman Le'Nehja Norwood coming in fourth after a personal best run of 24.86s. Lauvstad finished on the podium in sixth with a time of 25.28s. Finishing in seventh, sophomore Norah D'Almeida ran a 25.36s, along with Morton in ninth place (25.39s).
 
In the 100m hurdles, Cartwright again took first with a time of 12.99s to break the facility and meet record previously set at 13.59s. Junior Adeyah Brewster came in second with a time of 13.86s. Finishing in fourth was freshman Esaba Okwaramoi (14.24s) and in sixth was Lauvstad with a personal best time of 14.69s.
 
Senior Eilika Lane ran a 55.24s to place first in the 400m dash, with sophomore Kaia Mortz finishing in eighth with a time of 59.27.
 
Senior MaKenna Thurston made her mark in the 800m run, smashing the facility and meet record of 2:13.59 with her own time of 2:08.44 to place first in the event. This personal best time ranks Thurston seventh nationally and second on the MSU all-time list. Freshman Danielle Malone joined Thurston in the race, finishing in tenth with a time of 2:26.54.
 
Five Mavericks raced in the 1500m run, leading the group was freshman Addison Peed, placing third with a personal best time of 4:39.03. In fourth, junior Makayla Bishop ran a personal best time of 4:39.56. These marks rank Peed and Bishop, 13th and 14th, on the MSU all-time list, respectively. Also recording personal best times were senior Cassidy O'Meara in eighth place (4:43.56) and sophomore Kennedy Speer in ninth place (4:47.02). Rounding out the event in tenth was sophomore Madison Matzek with a time of 4:50.76.
 
In the final event for the Mavericks, sophomore Emmah Dmystrasz ran a personal best time of 19:29.79 in the 5000m run to place third.
 
The Mavericks stay home for competition this weekend, looking to continue their success at the Maverick Open #2 on Saturday, May 4th.
