Ten Mavericks Take First Place at Maverick Open #1

Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State men's outdoor track and field team hosted the Maverick Open #1 today, taking first as a team with 260 points.
 
Breaking a facility record, meet record, and recording a personal best time to place first in the 200m dash was junior Jabez Reeves with a time of 20.94s. This time places Reeves fourth on the MSU all-time outdoor top performances list. Freshman Richlu Tudee placed second with a personal best time of 21.36s. Also recording personal records were junior Jalen McGee (21.73s) and sophomore Brock Unger (21.94s). Tudee, McGee, and Unger also broke the facility record, previously set at 21.85s, and the meet record, previously 21.98s. Also in the 200m dash were freshman Oluwadamilola Babalola in eighth (22.32s) and senior Daniel Attoh finishing in ninth (22.39s).
 
In the 100m dash, junior Armondo Colome took first with a time of 10.55s, followed closely by senior Nicholas Sharma at 10.66s to place second. Unger finished in sixth with a time of 10.94s.
 
Freshman Anthony Collins ran a personal best in the 400m to place second. With a time of 48.22s, Collins ranks 14th on the MSU all-time list. Babalola finishing in fifth with a personal record time of 49.30s. Junior Kyler Bade finished in seventh with a time of 50.40s. In ninth, freshman Theo Moseman ran a 50.47s, with freshman Gavin Greiner behind in tenth with a PR time of 51.44s.
 
With a time of 14.32s, McGee placed second in the 110m hurdles, and tying for 38th in the national rankings. In third, senior Renald Pierre ran a 14.35s.
 
In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Owen Petersohn placed first with a time of 53.43s, along with breaking the previous meet record of 53.90s. Sophomore Chase Swenson finished with a time of 56 seconds to place seventh.
 
Junior Leif Larson ran a personal best time of 1:53.77 in the 800m to place third. In seventh, junior Ray Ure ran a time of 1:56.32, with senior Caden Speikers not far behind in ninth with a time of 1:56.97.
 
Crossing the line with a PR time of 3:55.62, freshman Paul Lins placed third in the 1500m. In sixth, sophomore Jacob Ziebarth ran a time of 4:11.23.
 
Freshman Erek Ross placed fifth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:51.03, with freshman Benjamin Gessin running a 16:23.63 to finish in tenth, both times being personal best marks.
In the 4x400m relay, a team of sophomore Thomas Rosengren, junior Marvin Dure, junior Junior Pontes Da Veiga, and sophomore Qai Hussey took first with a time of 3:10.58. This time breaks the previous facility and meet records of 3:14.50, ranks the team 11th nationally, and sixth on the MSU all-time list.
 
In the hammer throw, senior Carter Aguilera threw a personal best of 55.91m (183' 5") to place second and rank fourth on the MSU all-time list. In third, junior Liam Byrne threw for a distance of 55.85m (183' 3"), with junior Joshua Beiswanger in fourth with a throw of 54.30m (178' 1"). Junior Zachary Shaner threw for 52.82m (173' 3") to place sixth, followed by senior Steven Orzolek finishing in ninth (50.87m, 166' 10").
 
Aguilera also placed second in the discus throw with a throw of 54.50m (178' 9"), now ranking 11th nationally. Sophomore Oliver Andersen finished in seventh after throwing for 50.25m (164' 10").
 
In the shot put, Orzolek took third with a throw of 17.38m (57' 00.25"). This throw puts Orzolek on the national rankings at 16th. Freshman Justin Fretag threw a personal best of 16.57m (54' 4.5") to place fourth and rank seventh on the MSU all-time list. In fifth, sophomore Ben Wieser threw for 16.39m (53' 9.25"), with Aguilera in eighth after throwing for 16.07m (52' 8.75").
 
Tying for eighth nationally, McGee placed first in the long jump after a jump of 7.62m (25'). Junior Slade Heald took second with a jump of 7.49m (24' 7"), now ranking 19th nationally. Finishing in seventh, senior Takudzwa Mangwiro jumped a distance of 21' 6.75").
 
Junior Aiden Buendorf took first in the high jump after clearing a height of 2.00m (6' 6.75"), with junior Jacob Ziebarth jumping for 1.95m (6' 4.75") to place second. Sophomore Ethan Klemme finished in fifth after a jump of 1.85m (6' 00.75").
 
In the pole vault, junior Jed Hansen placed first with a vault of 4.57m (15'), with freshman Collin Windorski also clearing a height of 4.57m (15') to place second. Sophomore Austin Frank finished in sixth after notching a height of 4.12m (12' 6.25").
 
Breaking facility and meet records in the triple jump were junior Jordan Spencer and senior Onyekachi Ukaobasi. Spencer, placing first with a jump of 15.05m (49' 4.5"), ties for 16th nationally. With a jump of 14.95m (49' 00.75"), Ukaobasi finished in second. Senior Camwrin Harris took third with a distance of 13.67m (44' 10.25"), with freshman Ryan McDowell placing fourth after jumping 13.35m (43' 9.75"). In sixth, sophomore Alexander Dacruz jumped for 13.14m (43' 1.5").
 
The Mavericks continue competition at the Maverick Open #2, this Saturday, May 4th at the Mark Schuck Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
