Buendorf & Byrne Lead Mavericks to Third Place Finish

Decorah, Iowa – The Mavericks' men's outdoor track and field team took third with 130 points at the Norse Invite in Iowa.
 
Starting with throwing events, junior Liam Byrne threw the javelin for 52.64m (172' 8"), landing himself on the Mavericks all-time top performances list at seventh.
 
In the discus throw, sophomore Oliver Andersen had a personal best throw of 47.02m (154' 3") to place second. Byrne found his was to fifth place with a throw of 44.17m (144' 11"), with freshman Justin Fretag close behind with a sixth-place finish through a 44.01m (144' 4") throw.
 
Seven Mavericks placed in the top 15 of the hammer throw, with Byrne leading the charge placing second with a throw of 54.58m (179' 1"), and ranking fifth on the MSU all-time top performances list. Juniors Joshua Beiswanger and Zachery Shaner placed fourth (52.91m, 173' 7") and fifth (52.12m, 171"). Shaner had a personal best throw, and both juniors are now ranked on the MSU all-time list. With a throw of 50.01m (164' 1"), senior Steven Orzolek placed seventh with his PR throw, landing him on the MSU all-time list. Fretag also made the top ten placings for the event at eighth with a throw of 46.80m (153' 6"). Sophomores Ben Wieser and Anderson placed 13th and 15th,, respectively.
 
For the final throwing event, Wieser took second with a personal best heave of 16.10m (52' 10") in the shot put. Orzolek and Fretag finished right behind with third place (15.87m, 52' 0.75") and fourth place (14.76m, 48' 5.25"), respectively. Wieser and Orzolek are now ranked on the MSU all-time top performances list. Andersen also placed in the shot put, threw for 14.02m (46') to finish ninth in the event.
 
Continuing field events, junior Aiden Buendorf jumped 1.95m (6' 4.75") in high jump to finish atop the podium. Tying for second was junior Jacob Ziebarth, with a jump of 1.90m (6' 2.75"). Also jumping 1.90m (6' 2.75") were freshman Michael Meadowcraft, and sophomore Ethan Klemme, placing fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Senior Takudzwa Mangwiro placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 6.04m (19' 9.75").
 
Moving to running events, freshman Stephane Kane took second with a time of 16.00 seconds in the 110m hurdles.
 
Freshman Gavin Greiner raced in the 200m, placing fifth (23.00s) and freshman Isaiah Walker ran a time of 52.40 seconds in the 400m to place sixth.
 
The Mavericks continue outdoor competition this coming week in California April 11th-13th, along with the Maverick Invite on April 13th.
