Mavericks Mark Six Champions at Drake Alternative

Saint Peter, Minn. – Part of the women's Maverick squad stayed close to home yesterday to compete at Gustavus Adolphus's Drake Alternative, finishing the day with six champions.
 
Freshman Le'Nehja Norwood took first in the final heat of the 100m dash with a time of 12.28s (2.5m/s wind speed). Freshmen Madison Hubbard and Lillian Strong took third (12.33s) and fifth (12.51s) in the event, respectively.
 
In the 200m dash, Strong crossed the finish line at 25.35s to place third, with sophomore Grace Hambel close behind in fourth with a time of 25.49s. Hubbard also competed, taking fifth with a personal best time of 25.52s. In 10th, freshman Brianna Shroyer also finished with a personal best time (26.37s).
 
Hambel competed in the 400m dash as well, finishing atop the podium with a time of 58.24s. Running a personal best, freshman Ella Erickson ran a 1:01.58 to place second.
 
Running personal record times in the 800m dash were junior Makayla Bishop and sophomore Kennedy Speer. Bishop placed second after a time of 2:17.72, along with Speer finishing in eighth (2:23.66).
 
Speer also had a personal best time in the 1500m run, placing third with a time of 4:50.23. Freshman Maria Selting took seventh with a personal record time of 5:00.51, followed by junior Megan Narveson in 10th with a time of 5:16.25.
 
Sophomore Madison Matzek took first place in the 5000m run with a time of 17:52.62 and now ranks 14th in the MSU all-time outdoor top performances. In third, sophomore Alexi MacDonald ran a personal best with a time of 18:13.02. Finishing in seventh was senior Alison Zigler with a time of 19:23.03.
 
In the 100m hurdles, freshman Emilynn Molesky placed third with a time of 15.82s, followed by freshman Kate Mohr after a personal record run of 16.48s to place fifth. Junior Rachel Jaworski ran the 400m hurdles and placed fourth after a time of 1:12.37.
 
Recording a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase was freshman Danielle Malone with a time of 13:01.47 to place fifth.
 
In the final running event for the day, a team of sophomore Melanie Marks, Mohr, Molesky, and freshman Brianna Villanti took second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:30.02.
 
Senior Lauren Preiner competed in the high jump, placing fourth after clearing a height of 1.53m (5' 00.25").
 
In the pole vault, freshman Hope Stangel had a personal best vault of 3.77m (12' 4.5") to take first place in the event, rank ninth on the MSU all-time list, and now rank 37th for the season's national rankings. Freshmen Jadyn Klein and Abigail Olenius followed in fourth (3.10m, 10' 2") and fifth (2.95m, 9' 8"), respectively.
 
Junior Molly Kahl took first in the long jump, after a leap of 5.52m (18' 1.5"). Strong took fourth with a distance of 5.14m (16' 10.5"), followed by Marks with a jump of 4.78m (15' 8.25").
 
Taking first place in the shot put was freshman Lauren Bird, with a heave of 12.87m (42' 2.75"). Freshman Elli Heisinger followed in fourth place after a throw of 11.73m (38' 6"). In sixth place, freshman Jadyn Hart threw for 11.46m (37' 7.25"), along with freshman Emma Osier in seventh after a throw of 11.46m (37' 7.25").
 
Junior Toryn Richards competed in the javelin, placing third with a throw of 30.13m (98' 10").
 
In the discus throw, Hart placed third with a throw of 39.66m (130' 1"). Freshman Julia Alberts took fourth place after her throw of 39.51m (129' 7"), with freshman Sarah Zino close behind with a throw of 38.29m (125' 7") to take fifth. In seventh, Heisinger threw for a personal best distance of 36.09m (118' 5").
 
Gaining her second championship of the day was Bird in the hammer throw, with a throw of 47.89m (157' 01"), and now ranking 15th on the MSU all-time list. Zino, Alberts, and Osier all threw for personal bests. Zino placed sixth after a throw of 41.79m (137' 1"). Alberts and Osier finished seventh (40.35m, 132' 4") and eighth (40.30m, 132' 3"), respectively. In ninth, Heisinger threw for 40.24m (132').
 
The Mavericks stay home this coming week to host and compete at the Mavericks Open #1 on Wednesday, May 1st and the Mavericks Open #2 on Saturday, May 4th.
