DES MOINES, Iowa --- Minnesota State senior hurdler
Denisha Cartwright narrowly missed the Olympic qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles as she turned in a time of 12.71 Saturday afternoon at the Drake Relays.
Cartwright's time was well under the Olympic standard of 12.77, however the wind rating was .01 too high. To meet the mark, the wind must be rated at a 2.0 or lower. The result improved her already national best time in the event and is the second fastest time in the nation – all divisions this year and the second fastest time in Division II, all-time.
Additionally, the Mavericks repeated as winners of the Drake Relays Cup. The Drake Relays Cup is awarded to the school which scores the most points in the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley, and distance medley relay teams.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Minnesota state finished .97 ahead of Lewis with a time of 44.76. That relay squad consisted of Cartwright, junior

Tijuanique Morton. The time as an improvement on their third-best time in the nation this year. The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore

In the sprint medley (200-200-400-800) the Mavericks ran away from the competition, finishing with the events lone sub-4 minute mark with a time of 3:53.79. Cartwright and Morton opened before passing to Lane for the 400 and senior
MaKenna Thurston for the 800-meter final leg. Augustana was second in the race with a time of 4:01.16.
In the distance medley (1200-400-800-1600), the Mavericks finished third with a time of 11:50.89. The relay squad consisted of senior

In the pole vault, senior
Paige Hickson established a new school record with a vault of 4.27-meters (14'0").
In the triple jump, freshman
Ghada Hamdani finished second with a leap of 12.39-meters (40'7 ¾") while sophomore
Lillian Washington was third with a leap of 12.32-meters (40'5"). In the University/College Championship Division, junior
Stella Neophytou was seventh with a leap of 11.77-meters (38'7 ½").
