Mavericks Finish Seventh at National Indoor Championships

 PITTSBURG, Kan. –  The Minnesota State men's indoor track and field team collected 27 team points en route to a seventh-place finish at this year's NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The Mavericks recorded their 11th top-ten finish in program history.

Pittsburg State won the team event with 69 points, besting Grand Valley State who had 56.5 points. Minnesota State was the highest placing Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team at the championships.

"The highlight of our weekend was Jabez Reeves's national championship in the 200-meters," said head coach Mike Turgeon"I'm proud of how we competed as a squad and we are looking forward to building off of this indoor season as we turn our attention to the outdoors."

Junior Jabez Reeves turned in a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.09, winning the championship by .05 and establishing a new school record. He is MSU's first national champion in the race since Michael Lawrence won it in 2005 and becomes the eighth All-American in school history in the distance. In the 60-meter dash, Reeves finished ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80 to earn Second-Team All-American honors.

The day started with senior Abel Christensen finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98. It marked the eighth time that MSU has earned All-American honors in the event.

A trio of Mavericks participated in the triple jump including Junior Jordan Spencer, junior Onyekachi Ukaobasi and senior Shemar Miller.

Miller finished fourth with a leap of 15.7-meters (51'1") en route to earning MSU's first All-American honor in the event since 2018 and the sixth-all-time. Both Spencer and Ukaobasi earned Second-Team All-American Honors. Spencer was 11th with a jump of 15.08-meters (49'5 ¾), while Ukaobasi finished 13th with a leap of 15.02-meters (49'3 ½").

In the pentathlon, sophomore Braxton Stewart finished 13th with 5,035 points to finish as a Second-Team All-American.

In the high jump, junior Jacob Ziebrath finished tenth in the high jump with a leap of 2.08-meters (6'9 ¾") to earn Second-Team All-American status.
