Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FAYETTE, Iowa. --- Minnesota State (15-10, 11-4 NSIC) completed its series sweep against Minnesota Duluth (8-17, 4-12 NSIC) after its 6-2 and 18-6 victories Saturday afternoon in Fayette, Iowa.

Junior Aidan Byrne got the scoring started in the top of the first with his third solo home run on the season giving the Mavericks the early 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks continued mounting pressure in the top of the third adding two additional runs on UMD's starter Brayden Buttweiler extending their lead to three runs.

Byrne opened the inning with a leadoff single and later advanced to second on his fourth stolen base of the season. The next batter, senior Ryan Wickman lined a ball into the center field gap resulting in his eleventh extra-base hit of the year driving in Byrne for his 26th RBI of the season.

Sophomore Louis Magers rounded out the Mavericks' third inning blasting his team-leading sixth home run of the year giving Minnesota State a 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks would hang on to win by a final of 6-2 in game one. Sophomore Louis Magers (2-1) notched his second win on the season after putting in five innings of work while collecting five strikeouts.

Minnesota State kept its intensity in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, scoring 18 runs on 13 hits while working 10 walks.

After UMD took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Maverick offense put a five-spot up in their half of the second. Minnesota State did not look back as it continued to unload on the Bulldogs scoring six runs on free passes while scoring at least a run off every UMD pitcher in the game.

The Mavericks would mercy rule the Bulldogs in the eighth inning by a final of 18-6 marking MSU's eighth game scoring double-digit runs. MSU outscored the UMD 43-20 in the four-game series resulting in its first NSIC conference sweep of the season.

"Offensively, we were relentless as we put up multiple big innings, head coach Matt Magers stated. "Our depth at pitching was key today. Magers and sophomore Tanner Shumski put up some big zeros on the mound."

Minnesota State is back in action on Friday for its home opener against Minot State with the first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
