Minnesota State Sweeps Bulldogs in Day One Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FAYETTE, Iowa. --- Minnesota State (13-10, 9-4 NSIC) swept its Friday doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth (8-15, 4-10 NSIC) by finals of 10-8 and 9-4 at Robertson Woods Field in Fayette, Iowa.

After UMD jumped on the Mavericks in the top of the 1st of game one scoring two runs, juniors Nick Baker and Tanner Thompson responded in the Mavericks half of the second. Bakers notched his 19th RBI on a line drive single to left field scoring junior Zach Stroh while also scoring his 13th run off Thompson's third homer of the season giving the Mavericks a 3-2 lead.

Following a UMD two-run home run in the bottom of the second, the Mavericks were able to reclaim its lead in the top of the fourth courtesy of a junior Aidan Byrne two-run double scoring Thompson and sophomore Matthew Fleischhacker.

The scoring tug of war continued in the bottom of the sixth seeing Duluth collect two runs on an RBI single from UMD's catcher Michael Gabbard tying the game at six.

The Mavericks would find offensive traction in the top of the ninth scoring four runs to take game one from Minnesota Duluth. In the inning, Thompson collected his third RBI of the game off an RBI single and Fleischhacker blasted his first home run on the season.

Game two of Friday's doubleheader was dominated by Minnesota State offense as the purple and gold registered eleven hits in the seven-inning matinee. Fleischhacker and junior Aidan Byrne collected two RBIs while also registering a combined five runs.

Thompson and Sophomore Louis Magers each registered two additional RBIs in the game. Coming into today's doubleheader Thompson had seven RBIs on the season to nearly doubling his total on the day finishing with five.

Minnesota State is back in action tomorrow to rematch the Bulldogs in its second doubleheader of the series.
