ATLANTA – Minnesota State (29-5) guard Joey Batt was named one of the WBCA's NCAA DII Women's Basketball All Americans in 2024. The senior from New Ulm, Minn. averaged 16.1 points, 3.1 assists and 3.6 steals per game in 2023-24 and led the Mavericks to a regular season conference title, the first conference tournament championship in program history and an NCAA regional title.

She is the first Maverick All-American since Heather Johnson earned All-American honors in 2008-09. Lisa Walters made three All-America teams between 1986-88 and Elsie Ohm made one in 1980.

"We congratulate the members of the 2024 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America team," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle M. Donehew. "These young women have worked to elevate their teams and themselves to an elite level of competition. Through their exceptional talents on the basketball court, they have also lifted the women's game."

After missing the first five games due to injury, Batt was an immediate spark to the team on both sides of the court. Minnesota State is 27-2 when she is on the court. The Mavericks won a program-record 19 consecutive games between late November and early February.

Batt scored a career-high 33 points in a loss to Northern State. She recorded 26 points and a career-best 10 steals in a 42-point win against Wayne State in December. The team ended with a conference record of 20-2.

The Mavericks won the NSIC Tournament, defeating MSU Moorhead and Southwest Minnesota State en route to the championship game. Minnesota State defeated UMary by a score of 89-74. Batt scored a team-high 16 points in the game and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

The senior superstar was also named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year, the third time she has earned the honor. Likewise, she was named to the NSIC All-Conference First Team and was awarded with the NSIC's Most Outstanding Senior Award.

Batt averaged 18.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, four assists and four steals per game in the NCAA DII Central Region Tournament. In the championship game, she led all scorers with 28 points on 10-18 FG shooting, three rebounds, five assists and five steals to lead Minnesota State to an upset win in dominate fashion. The Mavericks defeated the one-seed Southern Nazarene, 80-48, advancing to the Elite Eight for the second time in program history.

Batt and the Mavericks will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to take on Georgia Southwestern (29-3) on Monday, March 25 at 8:30 p.m. The game will be played at the St. Joseph Civic Arena and will be the first matchup between the Mavericks and the Lady Hurricanes.
