MANKATO, Minn. – No. 5 Minnesota State men's indoor track and field posted respectable results at Friday's Maverick Invitational at Myers Field House in the team's final tune-up before the NSIC Championships next weekend.

The Mavericks assembled 249.50 team points for first place, ahead of St. Johns (105.50), Gustavus Adolphus (61), Carleton (43), Southwest Minnesota State (36.50), St. Scholastica (26), Wisconsin-Superior (19), Martin Luther (12), Saint Mary's (8) and Bethany Lutheran (4).

"We believe our team is peaking at the right time heading into championship season," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "
Jalen McGee had opened his season with a long jump of 7.51m (24' 7") which put him fourth in the nation and fifth all-time in MSU history."

Junior
Alex Berg won men's pole vault at 4.61m (15' 1.50") and
Shemar Miller posted 15.75m (51' 8.25") to win triple jump for the Mavericks, ahead of teammates
Camwrin Harris (14.77m, 48' 5.5") and McGee (14.16m, 46' 5.5").

Minnesota State also took each of the top five shot put positions, with Oliver Anderson marking 16.05m (52' 8.0") for the victory and a personal best. Senior
Carter Aguilera posted a mark of 19.18 (62' 11.25") in shot put at the top of the podium.

On the track,
Renald Pierre won 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.09 seconds. Leif Larson ran the mile in 4:25.14 for first place and
Maquanet Collins won the 600 meter run in 1:24.67. Tyler Smith also took first in 400 meter dash (50.14).

"Our long jumpers currently hold three of the top six positions in the country heading into the NSIC championships," Turgeon said. "We are looking forward to hosting next Friday and Saturday and believe our men are in the position to repeat as indoor conference champions."

The NSIC Championships are scheduled for Feb. 23-24 at Myers Field House.
