MANKATO, Minn. – Grabbing several top finishes and running to a school record in the 4x400 meter relay, Minnesota State women's indoor track and field closed out its weekend of competition at the Maverick Premier #2 Saturday.
The relay team included
Denisha Cartwright, Robynn Roll-Curry,
Eilika Lane and
Rose Cramer. They took second place to Cal Poly Pomona with a time of 3:45.53.
"We had an extraordinary weekend as we shift gears towards the championship phase of our season," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "The standout moment was the women's 4x400m team shattering our school record by four seconds, moving us into the top three rankings nationwide. Over the past two days, we've made significant strides in elevating our team's readiness to compete for titles at both the conference and national levels."
Maverick women's track entered the weekend rated No. 2 in the nation by the USTFCCCA Division II ratings index. MSU took first place among 13 teams in the meet with 170.50 points. Azusa Pacific (102.50), Northern Michigan (68.50) Cal Poly Pomona (58) and San Marcos (31) rounded out the top five.
In sprints,
Denisha Cartwright took first place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.29.
MaKenna Thurston highlighted the distance runners with a mile time of 4:51.92.
Adeyah Brewster finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.30.
Paige Hickson headlined pole vault at 4.08 meters (13' 4.50") for first position while
Stella Neophytou topped triple jump at 12.22 meters (40' 1.25").
In throws,
Madeline Fretag placed first in weight throw (17.05m) and third in shot put (13.25m).
Minnesota State hosts the Maverick Invitational on Friday, February 16 at Myers Field House in the final tune up event to the NSIC Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24 in Mankato.
