Minnesota State Track & Field Kicks Off Home Indoor Season with Strong Showing at Chuck Petersen Open

MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State track & field had its first home indoor meet of the season on Saturday at the Chuck Petersen Open at Myers Field House. The men's team took first place in 12 events and the women's squad took first in nine events on Saturday. Student-athletes from St. Olaf, Gustavus Adolphus, Bethany Lutheran and Winona State all competed in the meet.
 
"It was great to be back competing with most of our team" said Minnesota State track & field head coach Mike Turgeon. "We're excited to welcome a few additions for the spring semester, along with another group of students that will be competing in January. This season is shaping up to be a strong one and I can't wait to see our full team assembled and proudly wearing the Mavericks uniform in January!"
 
In the 60 meter dash, Kemarri Stewart narrowly took first ahead of two Maverick teammates with a time of 6.73 seconds.
 
Kyler Bade took first place in the 400 meters with a 50.69-second finish. Chance Swenson had a first-place finish in the 600 meter race with a time of 1:26.26.
 
In the 800 meters, Kaleb Foltz finished with a time of 1:52.65, good for first place in the event. Qai Hussey finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 21.96, narrowly edging out his teammate, Stewart, but 0.002 seconds.
 
Sophomore Sheldon McNicholas took first in the triple jump, as he jumped a distance of 15.20 meters. Fellow sophomore Collin Windorski took first place in the pole vault event with a height of 4.63 meters. To close out the jump events, Michael Meadowcroft finished in first with a jump height of 1.80 meters in the men's high jump.
 
Freshman thrower Dylan Gross took first in the shot put with a throw distance of 16.27 meters. He finished in second in the weight throw, as Liam Byrne took first in the event with a distance of 17.67 meters.
 
On the women's side, Grace Johnson took first in the 60 meter hurdles with a finishing time of 8.52 seconds.
 
Ally Hammond followed that up with a 7.62-second finish in the 60 meter dash, good for first place.
 
Eilika Lane won the 400 meter race as she crossed the finish line in 56.48 seconds. In the 200 meters, senior student-athlete Robynn Rolle-Curry won the race with a final time of 24.75 seconds.
 
Moving into the field, sophomore Ghada Hamdani took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 12.67 meters. Stella Neophytou was just short of Hamdani with a jump distance of 12.66 meters in the triple jump.
 
Ashley Cridlebaugh placed first in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters. In the pole vault, Paige Hickson took first place with a jump height of 4.02 meters.
 
The Mavericks placed first in both women's throwing events. Freshman Jocelyn Hart threw the shot put 13.12 meters to place first and Aubri Brown won with a throw distance of 18.62 meters in the weight throw.
