MANKATO, Minn. –
Madison Mashuga notched her first career hat trick and Minnesota State women's hockey blanked Bemidji State 5-0 Friday night in WCHA play at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
Mashuga scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the opening period with assists from
Whitney Tuttle and
Lilie Ramirez.
Alexis Paddington made it 2-0 at 15:52 (from
Jayden Seifert and Mackenzie Bourgerie) before Mashuga notched a pair of goals early in the second period.
Jamie Nelson posted her third goal of the season to make it 5-0 on the power play in the third period and the Mavericks never looked back.
Mashuga's hat trick was the first by a Minnesota State player since Kelsey King did so against Long Island University (Dec. 16, 2022). The senior now leads the team with seven goals and 10 assists.
Sophomore goaltender
Hailey Hansen earned a shutout with 12 saves for MSU. The Mavericks posted 26 shots on goal, including four by
Lauren Zawoyski and
Claire Vekich.
Alexis Paddington won 10 of 14 faceoffs. MSU finished 1-2 on the power play while BSU went 0-1.
Minnesota State (7-9-1, 3-9-1 WCHA) concludes its series with Bemidji State (3-13-1, 2-11-0 WCHA) Saturday at 2:02 p.m. CT.
