HANOVER, N.H. – The Minnesota State women's hockey team (5-7-1, 2-7-1 WCHA) picked up a commanding 4-0 nonconference victory Friday evening at Dartmouth.
The Mavericks opened scoring late in a slow-paced first period, as
Ava Guillemette registered her first goal of the season at the 17
th minute of the first period. She was assisted by
Claire Vekich and
Shelbi Guttormson, giving MSU a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Minnesota State's offense surged, adding three goals to their tally.
Whitney Tuttle scored the second goal of the game as she was assisted by
Taylor Otremba and
Madison Mashuga just six minutes into the second period. Moments later,
Claire Vekich added a goal, with assists from
Sydney Langseth and
Jamie Nelson.
Nelson added the Mavericks' fourth goal, teaming up with
JuliAnna Gazdik and
Jayden Seifert for a dominant finish to the period and round out the Maverick scoring.
Neither could find the back of the net in the third.
In goal,
Hailey Hansen posted her first shutout of the season, stopping all 32 shots she faced.
"It took us a little while to find our rhythm in the first period," said head coach
Shari Dickerman. "Ava's goal gave us breathing room, and I was pleased with our puck movement and contributions from multiple lines in the second period. Hailey was excellent in net, sealing the win with her shutout."
The Mavericks wrap up the series with Dartmouth Saturday, at 2 p.m. CT.
