MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State swimming and diving team claimed its seventh dual victory of the season as the Mavericks bested Southwest Minnesota State 183-104.
With the win, head coach
Nathan Owens earned his 100th career dual victory. In total, the Mavericks finished first in 14 of the 16 events as they improved to 7-1 in dual action on the season.
"We had fun meet today," Owens said. "The women look strong in the water and on the boards as we hit peak training before the Thanksgiving break. We had a lot of tough races today, especially those longer races two hundred and up, so it's hard for most of our women to feel good, perform well, and be excited all at the same time. Most of us are broken down and feeling the stress of training, which isn't a bad thing for this time of the year, but it is difficult both physically and mentally.
"At the end of the day, we're working hard, trying our best, and staying positive. All that hard work will pay off down the road. Our divers had another great week! Aspen and Nat are now fully qualified for the NCAA championship pre-qualification meet which is awesome. Aspen had a phenomenal day on both boards while setting a new school record in the six dive 3-meter list."
Senior
Aspen Warnygora led the way in the diving events as she finished first in both the 1-meter (261.15) and 3-meter (284.05) events. Sophomore
Natalie Freeman took second place in both events with scores of 255.10 in the 1-meter event and 238.70 in the 3-meter event.
The backstroke events saw both
Abby Gronholz and freshman
Savannah Acker take a first place finish. Gronholz notched a time of 57.97 in the 100 backstroke, while Acker posted a time of 2:09.62 in the 200 backstroke.
Freshman
Averi Larsen and sophomore
Hannah Rauzi led the way in the breaststroke events. Larsen notched a time of 1:06.33 in the 100 breaststroke event, while Rauzi finished first in the 200 breaststroke event with a time of 2:35.66.
The Mavericks also dominated the freestyle events as they took first place in all five events. Freshman
Kaylie Gibbs took first place in both the 500 freestyle (5:26.91) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:55.89) events. Senior

Gretta Hansen took first in the 200 butterfly event with a time of 2:15.84 as well.
"Today was also my 100 dual meet win for my career here at Minnesota State which is a very cool milestone," Owens said. "I feel very fortunate to work with so many amazing ladies that are also excellent student-athletes. The coaches and I feel very fortunate to have such a strong team."
