MINNEAPOLIS — Fourth ranked Minnesota (5-3-1, 1-3-1 WCHA) downed Minnesota State (2-3-0, 0-3-0) 8-2 Friday evening at Ridder Arena in WCHA women's hockey.
The Mavericks posted 14 shots on goal while the Gophers had 27.
The Gophers found the back of the net in the first minute of the game, scored by Natalie Mlynkova.
Minnesota led 2-0 after 20 minutes, then added three more in periods two and three. Mlynkova led Minnesota with two goals and one assist.
Late in the third period Taylor Otremba scored the first goal of the night for the Mavericks with an assist from Madison Mashuga.
Minutes later Whitney Tuttle scored MSU's second goal, also assisted by Mashuga.
Minnesota State returns to Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center against Minnesota on Saturday, October 26 at 2:02 p.m. CT.
