Minnesota State Completes Sweep Against Lindenwood

Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State (9-12-0, 3-11-0 WCHA) completed the sweep against Lindenwood ( 7-12-1, 2-5-1 CHA) by a final of 4-3 Saturday evening at Mayo Clinic HSEC.

After giving up two early first-period goals, the Mavericks showed their grit erasing their deficit and completing the sweep to earn their seventh win in their last 10 games.

Just four minutes into the second period, senior Charlotte Akervik notched her fourth tally of the season on the powerplay cutting LU's lead to one. On the play, sophomore Lilie Ramirez and senior Sydney Langseth notched assists.

With five minutes remaining in the period, senior Sydney Langseth surprised Lindenwood goaltender with a turn-around shot in the slot tallying her tenth goal of the season sending a tied game into the final period.

After Lindenwood's Chloe Corbin took a penalty to start the third period, senior Kennedy Bobyck cashed in on the opportunity for her fourth goal on the season giving Minnesota State its first lead on the day.

At the 12:30 mark of the final period, Lindenwood stole one back on a penalty shot knotting the game at three. Just 57 seconds later, junior Alexis Paddington found the back of the net for her first tally of the season while notching her third career game-winning goal.

"I thought a big part of our game was our penalty killing," stated head coach John Harrington. Being able to mitigate the damage on penalty kill while notching two special teams' goals was huge."

Minnesota State is back in action on January 12th opening a series against St. Cloud State. The action on Friday is set for 6 p.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
