ST CLOUD, Minn. --- Freshman goaltender
Hailey Hansen turned away 25 shots as Minnesota State (10-12-0, 4-11-0 WCHA) picked up a 2-1 road victory over eighth-ranked St. Cloud State Friday night in WCHA action.
The win marked the eighth victory in the last ten games for the Mavericks, including their third in a row.
Hansen picked up her first career win in just her second career start. It marked her first game between the pipes for the Mavericks since Nov. 3.
"Really excited for Hailey," said head coach
John Harrington on Hansen's performance. "To get her first career victory, and really be solid back there, not only making stops but putting pucks in areas where they couldn't get second chances – she was a big part of our game tonight."
The Mavericks picked up both of their goals in the first period. Sophomore
Whitney Tuttle lit the lamp for Minnesota State at the 13:50 mark, her eighth of the season.
Junior
Claire Vekich picked up her fifth goal of the season a little over three minutes later – a goal which would hold on to be the game winner.
St. Cloud State scored at 18:31 of the first, however that would prove to be the last time they got the puck past Hansen.
"I'm proud of our team's effort tonight," said Harrington. "I was really impressed with how we stuck with it after that."
The two teams close the two-game set on Saturday. Game time is set for 3 p.m., at the Herb Brooks Hockey Center.
