IOWA CITY, Iowa - Minnesota State men's indoor track and field traveled to University of Iowa to participate in the Larry Wieczorek Invitational at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility and the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Jan. 19-20. The Mavericks were joined in competition by Bradley, Illinois, Illinois State, Indian Hills, Mount Mercy,
SIU-Edwardsville, UNI, Western Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
"Jabez Reeves continues to develop and improve as a national-level sprinter," said head coach Mike Turgeon. "He's competed very well in the 60/200m this weekend. We are excited about the progress senior thrower Carter Aguilera made this weekend in weight throw with a new personal best throwing against an outstanding field."
SPRINTS/HURDLES
Junior
Shemar Miller and Senior
Jabez Reeves qualified for the 60 meter dash premier. Reeves ran fourth (6.85) and Miller set a personal best time in the 60 meter prelims to set an NCAA qualifying time. Reeves also ran second to Iowa's Gratt Reed in the 200 meter dash premier with a time of 21.68.
Qay Hussey came in third in the 400 meter dash premier (48.35). Senior
Abel Christiansen placed eighth in the 60 meter hurdles premier finals (8.16)
RELAYS
Minnesota State's 4x400 meter relay team of
Thomas Rosengren, Junior Pontes D Veiga, Reeves and Hussey crossed the line third in 3:16.94.
JUMPS
Sophomore
Braxton Stewart topped MSU men's high jumpers in fifth place (1.05m, 6' 4.75").
Collin Windorski and
Alex Berg competed in Pole Vault, placing fourth and fifth respectively.
James Gilbert topped out at 7.56m (24' 9.75") for second place in long jump.
Onyekachi Ukaobasi took fifth in triple jump (14.76m 48' 5.25").
THROWS
Steven Orzolek threw 15.67m (51' 5.0") on his first attempt for 11
th place in shot put. Senior
Carter Aguilera finished 6
th in weight throw (19.22m 63' 0.75") with a new personal best.
