MARSHALL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team picked up its sixth dual victory of the season as it bested Southwest Minnesota State 221-65.
MSU now owns a 6-1 dual record on the season.
"It was good to compete in Marshall at SMSU today," head coach
Nathan Owens said. "This was our team's first meet since the Augustana Invite before Thanksgiving. We were definitely a little rusty in terms of racing, but overall had a good first meet getting back into the mindset of competing.
"Our diving squad looked sharp coming off their winter break training camp which is great to see. In terms of swimming, we're looking to get better and feel better over the next few weeks. We feel good about where the team is right now."
In total, the Mavericks took first place in 14 events including both diving events. It was in the 3-meter diving event where sophomore
Jenna Elizarraras would take first place with an NCAA qualifying score of 256.75. Junior
Aspen Warnygora followed in second place with a score of 255.90. In the 1-meter diving event, freshman
Natalie Freeman posted the top finish as she recorded 243.35 points.
MSU also set the pace in both the 200 medley and the 200 freestyle relays. The team of junior

Olivia Hudoba won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.82, while the quartet of junior

Kaylee Sivertsen won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.37.

Ella DeFever finished the day with three first-place finishes. DeFever won both the 100 freestyle (54.23) and 200 freestyle (1:58.33) events, before taking first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.50. Junior
Sienna Sirek-Kreye also won multiple events as she took first in the 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle events with times of 5:21.86 and 11:07.30, respectively.
In the 100 backstroke, Gronholz would set the pace with a time of 1:00.03, while Gorecki won the 200 backstroke event with a time of 2:11.95.Senior
Brooke Shell took first in the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 1:08.59, while freshman
Gretta Hansen added a first place finish in the 200 butterfly event with a time of 2:17.28. Sophomore
Kolby Schendel won the 100 IM event with a time of 1:01.72 as well.
Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 as it takes on both St. Thomas and Concordia-St. Paul in Mendota Heights, Minn. The double dual is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
