MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State women's indoor track and field posted 313 points to win the Bearson/Gathje Classic at Myers Field House Friday afternoon. The day featured competition from Minnesota Duluth (133.5), Winona State (69.5), St. Olaf (38) and Bethany Lutheran (15).
Junior
Adeyah Brewster ran an impressive 8.43 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles for first place. MSU senior
Roxan Foster was second (8.68). Senior
MaKenna Thurston paced the Mavericks in distance with a second place mile run of 4:55.40.
"Adeyah moved up to second nationally in the hurdles behind teammate
Denisha Cartwright," said head coach
Mike Turgeon. "A big highlight of the night was Makenna from Nicollet running a personal best in the mile to sit sixth nationally. We are looking forward to competing against a few Big Ten teams next weekend at University of Iowa."
Freshman
Madison Hubbard won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.78 seconds.
Kaia Martz took first in the 400 meter dash in 1:00.19.
The Mavericks dominated the 200 meter dash event with each of the top seven finishers, including
Rose Cramer with the top time (25.04).
Off the track,
Paige Hickson topped nine Maverick pole vaulters at 3.91m (12' 10.00"). In long jump freshman
Victoriia Ermolaeva continued her strong debut with a winning mark of 5.91m (19" 4.75").
Miranda Lauvstad was second and
Alexa Post finished third.
Flore Gracia highlighted the triple jump (12.71m 41' 8.50") and
Mony Johnson posted the best shot put throw of 13.30m (43' 7.75"). Johnson also placed first in weight throw for the Mavericks (17.50m, 57' 5.00").
Next for Minnesota State is a trip to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational Jan. 19-20 at Iowa Indoor Track Building.
