2022-2023 Women’s Hockey Team Awards

MANKATO, Minn. – The Mavericks hosted its annual award ceremony last week honoring eight Mavericks for their achievements during the 2022-23 season.  

Senior goaltender Alexa Berg received the 3 Star Award and the Tiffany Searles Award for her outstanding play last season between the pipes for the Mavericks.  The White Bear, Minnesota native saw action in 22 games while starting 19. Berg accumulated 1,194 minutes last season to go along with 8 wins on the season. Berg tied Danielle Butters (2012) for the third most shuts shutouts in a single season with four.  

Freshman Kianna Roeske also earned the Tiffany Searles Award for her outstanding play for the Mavericks. Roeske was a pivotal defender as she also notched two goals and an assist on the season.  

Freshman Taylor Otremba earned MSU's Rookie of the Year Award after accumulating 20 points (8-12--20) last season while notching three game-winning goals for the Mavericks.   

Otremba, a 3x WCHA Rookie of the Week recipient and January's WCHA Rookie of the Month, became the eighth Mavericks to earn a spot on the WCHA's All-Rookie Team on February 23, 2023.   

Sophomore Shelbi Guttormson earned the Most Improved Player Award. Guttormson had seen action in all 36 games for the Mavericks. The sophomore pulled together an impressive 4-10--14 season while anchoring the Mavericks' blue line throughout the 2022-23 season.  

Senior Claire Butorac has earned the Mavericks Pride and Most Valuable Player Awards. Butorac saw action in all 36 games played this year while finishing with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. The Andover, Minnesota native has finished her career in the purple and gold after participating in 153 games which is fourth on the Mavericks All-Time Games Played list.  

Junior Madison Mashuga earned the Daniel Mundahl Service Award for her efforts this season. Mushuga also saw time in all 36 games this season while finishing with 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points.
